I did not graduate from Dunbar because my family and I moved to Long Beach California during the first two months of my sophomore year.
Upon our move, I registered in High School on my second day of arriving there. I was amazed to discover that the classes I was enrolled in 10th grade
at Dunbar were classes required for the senior year students at my new school’ and classes that I had in eight and ninth grade at Dunbar were 10 and 11th grades there.
I have always been so proud of the caliber of teachers we had at Dunbar, a segregated school, and how they prepared their students to be able to compete anywhere in the United States at all levels.
I am proud to have returned to Lufkin to be able to have the opportunity to be able to help spread the many successes of Dunbar High School.

My name is Robert L. Mark, I am a member of the Dunbar Class of 1969. I became a member of the Dunbar High School Alumni Association after I went to a meeting as a guest visitor. I left that meeting knowing that I wanted to be a member of this organization because it was established to carry on the great tradition of Dunbar High School.

"The teachers were very caring about us and always encouraged us to help us achieve our goals in life that we had set for ourselves.
One of the things that was very useful to us was Home Economics because it prepared young ladies how to cook, sew and to help us to prepare to be successful young ladies in these areas of life. We feel this should have remained in the school system.
